Bonneville explores a more intimate, singer-songwriter ballad while maintaining that Muscle Shoals sound. It’s the 6th single from self titled funk, retro-soul album, Bonneville. Available on all platforms.
This soulful slower pace track, ‘A Late One’ is available to stream on all major platforms.
‘A Late One,’ is a classic story of love and longing done in the timeless style of Blues and R&B. We wanted to make a classic ‘hurt your heart’ type of soul ballad. So, we pulled from experiences of pining for someone; the desperation of that, and the elation we feel through it as well. It’s an experience that most of us can relate with.
We hope this track helps you get cozy this winter ❄️

Sometimes an artistic journey is a road back in time, to a place where you’ll find the most genuine version of yourself. If you embrace the wisdom of the past, you may find the purest form of your art. Bonneville duo, Jeff Hayashi and Wes McGee, have both had a lifelong love of music. Each has traveled a bumpy road searching for the truest expression of that love. Their retro-soul, R&B sound embodies that fearless reflection of their artistic roots. Their energetic sound expresses the joy in the discovery.
Bonneville’s journey continues as they experiment with new sounds. But the common thread is a musical legacy. It’s not a strictly retro sound, but it echoes the passions of the previous generation for both men, and recalls the time of hand-crafted, “analogue” music, sung from the soul. It’s a beautifully imperfect sound that makes you want to go along for the ride.
TodayGlideis excited to premiere the video for “Get Up n’ Get Down,” the third single release from Bonneville’s self-titled debut album, to be released October 5th. This instantly funky tune finds them collaborating with the veteran Country Music vocalist Shelly Fairchild, who lays down playful but powerful and soulful lead vocals. The song is a funky, danceable and downright infectious nugget of upbeat R&B that bounces along with a classic groove. Hayashi’s guitar slices through it all to give the song a fervent energy.
The album reflects their Southern artistic roots, passion to preserve the music legacy of this historic era, and tireless effort to reignite the appreciation and celebration of classic soul grooves. Both men recall the time of hand-crafted, ‘analogue’ music, sung from the soul. It’s a beautifully imperfect sound that makes you want to go along for the ride. Atlanta based friends, co-songwriters lead vocalist Wes McGee and guitarist Jeff Hayashi, contribute to Bonneville’s instantly recognizable style and sound – raw, deep, greasy, swampy, classic soul grooves with a R&B, funk, blues edge.

Southern retro-soul duo Bonneville are in the process of rolling out their debut self-titled LP; a compilation of rock, soul, funk and R&B arranged to reflect not only their personal relationships with the deep-seated musical roots of the South but also the very core of the sound – which continues to guide musicians and ignite passion in music aficionados and enthusiasts.
The LP was recorded by the Atlanta-based group–led by vocalist Wes McGee and guitarist Jeff Hayashi–at Fame Studios and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, Ala., and mastered by Richard Dodd, Nashville, Tenn. The result is profoundly American and equally distinctive and was formulated after the two artists traversed the country in search of that something. The vast nature of the U.S. called for exploration both inwards and out, and as a result, they tapped into an energetic sound that expresses and encapsulates the joy of discovery – a sound that is raw, greasy and easy to amalgamate.
Today, we debut the second single off Bonneville, “Hard To Love,” a rhythmic, classic-sounding tune that calls back to the era of Do Wop. While the track is influenced by thestylings of artists like Wilson Pickett and Clarence Carter, Bonneville are able to lift the essence of their inspiration into the 21st century by mindfully tending to the lyrical and sonic dichotomy on the track, making heartbreaking lyrics and gilded horns feel like red on a rose.
Narratively, the track explores the difficulties of a musician who is struggling with maintaining his personal family life and public persona. According to the band, the theme was inspired by Stewart Copeland’s film Everyone Stares, which explores The Police’s rise to superstardom through a decade’s worth of stock footage and showcases their respective growth in lifestyle as they age and start their families.
“When we set out to make this song, we knew we wanted a tight pocket groove and syncopated instrumentation, lots of horns, and gospel choir style backing vocals. The horns have a way of bringing up the energy of the track and is one of the signature elements of Bonneville’s sound,” Hayashi shared with Relix. “We also knew that we had to maintain a dichotomy between a happy, upbeat vibe musically combined with a challenging and difficult lyrical expression that aligns to the narrative of the song. The narrative of ‘Hard To Love’ centers on the challenge of being a family man that is a music maker and entertainer; acknowledging the difficulties of maintaining a personal family life while needing to maintain a public persona.”
